I hope you are all doing well!

How was your Valentine’s day? Ours was very relaxed and low-key: we made chocolate crepes, and it was delicious! It’s so nice to take the time to make a special breakfast on the week-end. With confinement, I’ve learned that any occasion to celebrate should be taken, and that celebrations don’t need to be grand affairs. It takes a bit of an effort to think about these everyday celebrations, but the effect they have on my mood is well worth the extra time and energy! Next week-end, I’m looking forward to making some waffles or maybe pancakes. I’m not sure yet, but it’ll be simple and delicious!

I felt incredibly blessed this weekend when one of you wrote me to tell me that she had tried my rice pudding and chocolate cookies recipes. I was so glad to know that you tried the recipes and that you enjoyed them! It’s nice to imagine us sharing the same foods in different places.

As for work, well, I’ve been sketching a lot for my book project. Unfortunately for me, I’m almost done with the preliminary and “research” sketches, and I’ll soon have to embark on the project itself. I know I’ve been writing this since the beginning of the year, but this book project is SCARRRYYYYY!!! The next step will be to review and amend the storyboard I drew last year. Send in your happy thougths!

To relax, I’ve also started knitting an Icelandic Yoke sweater. I really hope this sweater will fit well. So far, all my sweater projects have been failures, so I’m excited to try again with this one. I’m enjoying the colours work immensely, and it’s been very relaxing to knit with the snow and cold outside.

Lots of new things in store this week! I’ve finally received some notepads and sticky notes for all the stationary lovers! It’s so nice to infuse a bit of pretty objects in our daily lives!

We had a major snow storm yesterday, and I’m taking my time writing this newsletter because after this, I need to walk to our mailbox. It’s about 15 minutes each way so I know I’m in for a treat with all the snow already on the ground and still falling!

This week, I’ve been mentally juggling with ideas and concepts for my book project. Things are starting to evolve and I’m slowly but surely reaching the point where I’ll have to jump and start putting pen on paper. In the meantime, I’ve realized that animals will be involved, and so I’ve been practising drawing animals. This is a bit of a new territory for me, but I’m enjoying the process a lot, and it’s nice to go back and fourth between flowers and animals.

May I introduce you to Salvad-Hare Dali! Hihihi!

I hope you are all doing well!

We’ve been decorating our home for Christmas this past week. It’s a weird celebration this year as we are trying to wrap our minds and hearts around the fact that we won’t be allowed to see our family. It’s a tough pill to swallow, I won’t deny it, particularly when it feels like every person we talk to is telling us that they will be seeing their families despite the interdiction.

Still, it feels good to put fairy lights everywhere. After all, Yule is such an important time in the year and an occasion to celebrate! I spent an entire week-end making paper stars and star lanterns. It was strangely soothing to fold paper over and over again.

If you want to make your own, this is the video I used for the paper stars and for the star lanterns.

I’m also keeping up with my mushroom paintings. It’s so much fun, and I feel like I’m learning a lot with each mushroom I complete. I’ll be sharing a new project with you very soon with all these little ‘shrooms!

I wanted to take a quick moment to thank you all for all your Christmas orders! It really makes all the difference as it motivates me to think of new products and paintings to share with you, while also supporting my small atelier!

Thank you a thousand times!

This week, I’m sharing an incredible link where you can visit three exhibits from the Montreal Fine Arts Museum for free in the comfort of your own home. I had a lot of fun exploring the post-impressionist exhibit, and I hope you’ll make a date out of this! It feels so good to be able to see these beautiful exhibits and to be immersed in the works of masters.

Well, what can I say. When I’m not painting pine cones, I’m painting mushrooms, and when I’m not painting mushrooms, I’m painting pine cones. This week is a mushroom week!

I’m learning a lot with these little subjects and mushrooms are really incredibly fascinating, so I’m having a lot of fun while I’m learning.

Incidentally, I wanted to try painting from a real mushroom instead of always using pictures. At my favorite organic grocery store, I selected the most beautiful shiitake I bought (under the amused eye of the cashier who must not sell a lot of mushrooms in packs of one…), brought it home and carefully put it in the fridge waiting for my next painting session… I must have waited too long because my beautiful mushroom was all shrivelled after 2 days in the fridge! I still tried to paint it, but I will have to repeat the experience with a real fresh mushroom!

As I’m writing this, a soft snow is falling outside and everything is beautiful. It is soothing to focus on those tiny magical things.

We’ve had to deal with a lot of stress and disappointment last week, but this week is looking up. It’s looking up because we’ve taken small actions and tried our best to be patient and indulgent with ourselves. It’s not always easy, but it is always worthwhile.

In the Atelier, I’ve been practising painting pine cones again, and there is something very peaceful and healing in repeating the same forms again and again, in mixing the same colours again and again. I’m finding comfort in repetition and in creating beautiful little pine cones.

This week, I’m a bit of a mess, and I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety and frustration. So, please bear with me while I swim through these troubled waters. Nothing major, just a growing feeling of alienation from a world that I don’t recognize or understand. But hey, I’m hanging on to my desk, and it should pass!

I had a lot of Christmas orders to prep and send out, and that has kept me busy. I love packing orders and imagining the lives my products will have in their new homes. It’s always so gratifying to send out my own creations into the world!

This week, I expended my office to have more space for a packing station! Orders are starting to come in (I’m so happy and grateful!), and I just couldn’t pack on my painting table anymore. So I did a bit of creative home design and used my teaching filing cabinet and an old door to create this beautifully functional space. I even found a space for some of my favourite artwork by Illulina and Heikala. I’m so pleased to have more space to pack your orders and also to paint and create.

I really struggled with this poinsettia painting, but in the end, I think it looks good! It’s available as a thank you card set and as a sticker sheet.

I had so much fun painting this little pinecone! Pinecones have always been really intimidating to draw to me, so I’m happy to have faced my fears and made this cute little thank you card!

Happy Halloween everyone!

I’m always so excited about this time of the year. Something in the air is more magical than any other time. I’m looking forward to baking some apple pie and pumpkin bread and lighting up a few candles this Saturday. What about you? What are your Halloween traditions?

Even if Halloween is in my heart, Christmas is on my mind. I’ve been working on new Christmas items for my Etsy boutique. It’s so exciting to share new items!

Also, for those of you who were disappointed about my book project, well, I’ve got news for you! I was able to order a few copies of the book, and they have shipped from the printer this morning! If all goes well, I should be able to add them very soon to my Etsy store too. I’m very excited to share my book with you even if it’s going to be a very limited printing this time. Still, it’s good news!

Hello friends,

I hope this finds you happy and healthy!

I know I usually send out the newsletter Wednesday or Thursday, but I worked so hard on some Christmas cards this week, and now that they are done, I just couldn’t wait to share them with you!

For Yule, I made a new series of magical plants cards. It is my selection of 5 plants that have a particular significance for Yule. Once again, it was a realy pleasure to explore the folklore and traditions surrounding these plants and to spend some time on the calligraphy and drawings. I hope you’ll like them too!
