Agatha’s Journal, Ink Drawing – Kickstarter Rewards

Agatha's Journal

En français plus bas 🙂

Only a few days left to the official launch of my Kickstarter campaign! I cannot believe how fast time as gone while I was working on this project. It’s very exciting and a bit nerve-racking at the same time. This week, I worked on some rewards, so that I can take pictures of the different reward categories and include them to the Kickstarter page.

I wanted to create something magical and fun, and I’m very happy with the result. For the reward, people will receive the original ink drawings, but I think I might make them into prints and cards. I just love their witchy/herbalist/ancient grimoire feel.

It felt so great to be drawing and sketching again after what felt like weeks of computer work! It was so interesting to dive into the magical side of common plants and to research the different superstitions and rituals that surround them. Fascinating!

This blog post is one in a series I’m writing about my book, Agatha’s Journal.

Check out this page for more information on the book!

Fascinant !

This week, it’s all about the plants! I’ve been collecting indoor plants for many years now, and I finally feel like my collection is on point. I found many of the plants I wanted to own, and they are all thriving. I’d like to think I’m doing something right, but to be honest, it’s probably just the great sunlight we have coming in!

Plants have been a huge relief while dealing with this concussion as they have provided beauty and comfort when all I could do was sit and look at them. Now that I can do a bit more, I painted them!

I selected 12 of my favourite plants and made them into small watercolors painting. It was really fun to look at the plants in detail and to figure out how to paint some of their leaves. I particularly enjoyed painting the Marantha!

I’m on YouTube!

I’ve been having a lot of fun filming my painting process and sharing short clips to Instagram, but I wanted to try and make longer videos. I’ve decided to make YouTube videos! I like having a different space to share and create content. Now, I’m not a video editing genius, but I like seeing the progress on an entire piece, and I hope you will too!

As a thank you for being on this reading list, you’ve got the first glimpse on my second video. I drew this croton plant, and it was so enjoyable!

I hope you will take a look, like and subcribe to my channel!

I just needed to make the indoor plants into stickers! I’ve started using them in my planner, and I’m enjoying them so much! They add such a nice freshness and life to everything!

I hope you will enjoy them too!

This week, I finished my skull lady triptych: enter Bear! I wanted to create something a bit different with this one. She is not leaving or going anywhere. Instead, she is patiently waiting and observing.

I really enjoyed working on these three pieces, creating atmospheres and diving into art that is a bit more personal and filled with magic. Despite all the fun, I’m ready for a little break and some smaller pieces.

I’m reading…

This week, a lot of concussion symptoms came back with a vengeance, so I didn’t read much. However, I did listen to Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman for the second time in a few months. I love this book so much because it features Nordic gods and goddesses in a very enjoyable way. Some stories are funny, others are a bit scary, but all are entertaining. For the second time, I felt so sad when Ragnarok ends: it really feels like old friends are leaving!

I also love listening to the book as it is read by the author. Gaiman creates voices and atmospheres, and it makes the reader feel like being a kid listening to bedtime stories.

I’ve recommended this book to everyone and their mother, so I really hope you’ll pick a copy up too!

Bear Witch is available as a print! Each print is hand signed.

I also worked on some patterns and created this notebook and sticker sheet bundle. Each notebook can be personalized with the letter of your choice. It’s small which makes it the perfect book to carry around, but it can also make a great common place book. I love noting down ideas and quotes. It is so nice to have a dedicated space to look back when in need of inspiration!

This week I worked on the second Skull Lady. After, Crow, let me present Deer! I’m enjoying creating these atmospheric backgrounds a lot, and I love these two ladies. They are so full of magic and wonder. It’s perfect for this time of the year when the outside world is cold and gloomy!

For Christmas, I received a sketchbook from the Brooklyn Art Library sketchbook project. It’s a really fun one: they want to create the biggest sketchbook library. That means that you buy a sketchbook, fill it in with anything you want, send it back and there you go! People can check out your sketchbook at the gallery or online.

It’s such a wonderful idea! I am very excited to participate to this project and have been playing with how to fill it in. Well, my first draft is done. It’s such a fun project I can’t wait to share more with you. All I have to say at the moment is that there are plants, a raven and an old house…

I’m reading…

I started and finished the most delicate and deliciously soft novel this week. It’s really it’s own genre. Through “The Greenhouse” by Audur Ava Olafsdottir (she’s from Iceland), we follow a young man who leaves his country to go work in a monastery as the head gardener. The monastery’s garden was once famous for its roses but is in need of a good clean up.
The story itself is very simple, but the reader gets to follow the thougths and impressions of the main character. It’s very comforting and a delicious read!
My copy of the book is a bit old: I found it in a used book store last summer in their dollar bin. It even had an old news paper clipping. This is why I love buying old books!

This week, I worked on two large-format watercolour illustrations. It’s pretty new for me to do full-page drawings, and I must say I like it! Each of these illustrations took me two days of work, but I think the result is worth it. I especially like the crow girl: I really liked working on the atmosphere of this picture and I wish I could join her on her adventures!

I also received the first copies of my colouring book! I’m really happy with the result and it makes me want to make more books. Several pages of notebooks were filled with ideas while waiting for each coat of watercolour paint to dry, so stay tuned!

I’m listening to…

This week, I discovered an extraordinary Korean musician and her Youtube channel “YUNI Marimba“. I particularly like her covers of Harry Potter, but all her songs are fun and relaxing to listen to. These videos are also very funny: I like it when she splits up to do the different tracks of the songs. Worth a listen!

As mentioned above, my coloring book is now available! I really hope you will check it out as it represents a lot of work and many, many hours of tweaking!

If you liked the illustrations above, they are also available as prints.

Finally, I’m also welcoming a new partner in my store: Annie from Yarnstastic Plushe. My cousin is an incredibly talented crocheteer, and she started selling her patterns in my Etsy store. All the proceeds from her sales are going to the Ronald McDonald House charity which is a charity helping the families of hospitalized children. As she went through extensive heart surgery as a baby and child, this charity really helped her family, and now she wants to give back! Right now, only one pattern is available, but many more are coming (no pressure Annie!).
