I saw this book recommended on a top 10 list of books. I immediately asked for it at the interlibrary loans, and what a find! Let’s jump right in Dim Sum Palace written and illustrated by X. Fang.
This book is just so much fun. I could completely relate to Liddy who is so excited to go to the Dim Sum restaurant the next day that she has trouble sleeping. She unexpectedly finds herself in a strange palace and gets turned into a dumpling herself. The story is funny, non-sensical, and refreshing. It reminded me of all the times I went to the Dim Sum restaurant with my family: the excitement and anticipation are wonderfully captured in this book.
Liddy is an adorable main character. Each drawing of her is full of expression and feeling making her lively and fun. the drawing style is almost geometric which gives the book a retro feel that was really interesting. So many food and ingredients are depicted in this book: beware, don’t read it hungry! It is so fun to look at the different food and recognize them. It made the reading experience interactive and entertaining.
Now that I made myself crave Dim Sum again by writing this review, I hope you’ll pick this book up too! It is a funny, adorable and unique. I had such a good time reading it. Happy reading (and eating)!

J'ai vu ce livre recommandé sur un top 10 de livres. Je l'ai immédiatement demandé au service de prêts interbibliothèques, et quelle trouvaille ! Plongeons dans Dim Sum Palace, écrit et illustré par X. Fang.
Ce livre est tout simplement très amusant. Je me suis complètement identifiée à Liddy qui est tellement excitée à l'idée d'aller au restaurant Dim Sum le lendemain qu'elle a du mal à dormir. Elle se retrouve inopinément dans un palais étrange et se retrouve elle-même transformée en dumpling. L'histoire est drôle, absurde et rafraîchissante. Elle m'a rappelé toutes les fois où je suis allée au restaurant Dim Sum avec ma famille : l'excitation et l'anticipation sont merveilleusement retranscrites dans ce livre.
Liddy est un personnage principal adorable. Le style de dessin est presque géométrique, ce qui donne au livre une touche rétro très intéressante. Tant d'aliments et d'ingrédients sont représentés dans ce livre : attention, ne le lisez pas en ayant faim ! Il est très amusant de regarder les différents aliments et de les reconnaître. Cela a rendu la lecture interactive et divertissante.
Maintenant que je me suis redonné envie de Dim Sum en écrivant cette critique, j'espère que vous choisirez ce livre aussi ! C'est un livre drôle, adorable et unique. J'ai passé un très bon moment à le lire. Bonne lecture (et bon appétit) !
